Kristy Maurina is a partner at MacDonald & Partners LLP where she has practiced family law exclusively since 2008. She was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2007. Prior to this, Kristy obtained a Double Honours B.A., with Distinction, from the University of Windsor

 

Kristy’s practice includes all areas of family law including negotiation, mediation, arbitration and litigation, with a particular interest in matters involving international child abduction, including Hague Convention and non-Hague Convention and jurisdictional cases.

    Kristy appears in court regularly, including at the Ontario Superior Court, Divisional Court and the Court of Appeal. She has numerous reported decisions at various levels of court in Ontario, several of which have also been reported in the Ontario Reports.  She has provided expert opinion evidence on Ontario family law for court proceedings in London, England, and has been consulted on family matters in Paris, France, as well as other jurisdictions in England.  

     

    Kristy has presented at numerous continuing legal education programs on various family law topics, including at the Family Law Summit and the National Family Law Conference.  She has been interviewed and quoted in family law articles by the National Post, Toronto Star, The Lawyer’s Daily and Law Times. She was a regular guest speaker on Global News Radio on various family law topics and was, most recently, a guest speaker on a National Bank of Canada podcast on the issue of domestic contracts. Kristy is a member of the International Academy of Family Lawyers, the Advocates Society, and was a member of the OBA Executive for several years. She is a contributing author of the Family Law Litigation Handbook and has authored numerous papers for continuing legal education programs and other platforms.

    Kristy is the articling principal at MacDonald & Partners LLP and runs the student program, acting as a mentor to the firm’s articling and 2L students, as well as associates.

     

    Kristy’s interests include snowboarding, wake surfing, travel, crosswords, piano, and anything outdoors.

KRISTY MAURINA

If you are a follower of celebrity headlines, then no doubt you have read all about the recent separation of Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas.  The big shock here has been Turner's claim under the Hague Convention.

While I practise all areas of family law exclusively, I have a particular interest and specialization in Hague Convention and jurisdictional matters, so my interest in this dispute has now been piqued.
